In the Eastbound and Down opening scene rookie Kenny Powers strikes out the Orioles’ best hitter with a full count fastball, winning the 2002 World Series. Caught up in the excitement of the big save, his famous catchphrase “You’re F**king Out!” was born.
With his new found success, Kenny Powers started building a large bank account, and an even larger ego. Moving from team to team each year through free agency, his major league baseball career eventually implodes, due to offensive comments, drugs, and steroids.
Out of money, and with nowhere else to turn, Kenny Powers returns home to Shelby North Carolina to take on the job of substitute gym teacher “until the majors call him back up.” Now that he is no longer a baseball superstar with “the fame, the money, the jewels”, living a regular life in a small town is killing him inside...
